Hold Your Head Up

Dress: Thrifted
Sweater: Thrifted
Tights: Fred Meyer
Socks: Fred Meyer
Boots: Thrifted
Necklace: Amazon
Hat: ASOS

Halloween is day after tomorrow and I'm actually excited this year. I have a couple friends that I'm going to dress up and trick- or- treat with. I'm going as Taylor Swift- I'm going to carry around a guitar (I know how to play a few of her songs) and streak my mascara so it looks like I've been crying about boys. Gonna be awesome!

Monthly Beauty Favorites: October

Alright guys, time for something new! A regular article, this time. Something I enjoy reading and watching from other internet beauty folk is their favorite items (be it monthly or overall). So, here we are! My favorite beauty products from the month of October (well.. the ones I used most, anyway).

My Wet N' Wild Comfort Zone and Enlisting For Beauty Palettes*

Enlisting For Beauty Trio

Comfort Zone Palette

I swear, I used these literally every day this month. They're just perfect fall colored eye shadows and so easy to make simple or dramatic. I really love the Wet N' Wild shadow formula- it's really pigmented and smooth.

Essence Gel Eyeliner in Midnight In Paris

I've found my new HG eyeliner. This stuff seriously does not budge. There was one night where I went to sleep with my makeup on- when I got up in the morning my winged eyeliner was still perfect! This stuff is like, bomb proof or something. It's also wonderfully pigmented, which is awesome!

Wet N' Wild Blush in Mellow Wine*

This is such a nice warm pink, almost berry color. It's a good shade for warming up a pale skintone. But be warned! It is extremely pigmented. And as long as you're careful about how much you use, it tends to look quite natural!

MAC Lipstick in Dark Side

One of my favorite trends this fall (actually.. my number one favorite) is dark lipstick. I was a little afraid to try it at first, but then I went to the MAC counter and tried on this lipstick- I was sold! It's such a nice deep color and so striking against pale skin! This also happened to be my first MAC lipstick, and I don't know about their other lipsticks, but this one is really, really long lasting. Every time I wear it lasts all freakin' day and only needs touchups after meals. Seriously awesome.

Wet N' Wild Megashine Lipstick in Dark Wine*

Another fabulous dark lipstick. It needed more touchups than my MAC lipstick, but it was still very nice. I love this color!

Nivea Kiss Of Mint and Minerals Lip Balm

I'm not sure if this counts as a beauty product, but its certainly awesome! The changing seasons has my skin acting out and drying up and that includes my lips. My lips feel awesome when I use this stuff!

Devil In A New Dress

Leggings: Aeropostale

Today I visited the University of Oregon campus for a tour and to learn about admissions and things. I don't think I'll end up going there, but the campus is really beautiful. It was big with lots of trees in varying shades of red and orange and yellow everywhere and lots of little paths winding around. I could have spent the whole day exploring it and admiring the colors around there. The leaves floating around everywhere ended up being a great addition to my photos, and it's too bad I don't have access to the campus- it's much further away than walking distance- or I would go there to take all my photos during fall!

One Day

Skirt: Thrifted (and altered)
Shoes: Thrifted
Belt: Thrifted
Sweater: Thrifted
Hook Necklace: Artist in Hawaii

I love the look of maxi skirts.. but I find that they often make me look shorter than my 5'4. Over my 17 years, I've learned something about dressing oneself, and that is that you won't always be flattered by every thing you like. And that's okay. I think it's more important to love what you wear and feel good in it, than to wear things you don't like for the purpose of flattering your body type. For example, I don't like wearing peplum skirts or ruffles around my neck but both are recommended for people considered "petite". Oh well!

Be Cool, Stay In School

T Shirt- Thrifted
Skirt- Handmade
Socks- Fred Meyer
Boots- Thrifted
Belt- Thrifted
Sweater- Thrifted
Hat- ASOS

The nice thing about knowing how to make your own clothes, is the ability to make exactly what you want in exactly your size. I've never made myself a shirt or a dress (it's on my to do list though!) but I have made myself a few skirts along the way as well as a poncho and every time I feel so satisfied. I have a beautiful thing that I can wear and I made it with my own two hands! I think knowing how to make something, be that sewing or knitting or molding with clay, is a very important thing in life.

Boots: Thrifted

Sweater: Thrifted
Lipstick: MAC Dark Side

The trees are balding. This is my favorite dress.

Something I think is kind of funny is when people think I'm dressed up just looking like this. This isn't dressed up, this is how I dress. Today I was out taking pictures with a friend (her senior photos, eep! Someday I'll do this professionally..) and a guy walked by where we were and made some comment about us looking all dressed up and awesome for our pictures. That got me thinking.. has our culture really become so casual that the very act of wearing a dress means you are dressed up? Why don't people dress up for little things? I personally have always enjoyed the ritual of picking out an outfit for an event as small as going shopping, the doing of the makeup, arranging of the hair, choosing of the jewelry.. I know many people share the same feeling I do of enjoyment, and yet the common clothing to wear is jeans. I suppose its just a matter of personal taste and comfort.

If you take a picture maybe it will last longer..

Tank top: Old Navy
Dress: Thrifted (and handmade)
Boots: Thrifted
Belt: Thrifted
Sweater: Thrifted
Camera necklace: Amazon

This was the first time I got to wear this dress, and I kept getting compliments! I also kept getting the comment "You must really like cameras" as I was both wearing this necklace, and carrying my real camera with me. Today was such a nice warm day, warm enough to not wear a sweater. I do look forward to the rain, but I'm enjoying the warmth while it lasts.

It's finally time to start with Autumn layers.. Tights, sweaters, thick socks.. It's my favorite time of year! I especially like that everything is turning pretty colors- everything looks so happy to be alive! It's a little like a second springtime, except everything is getting ready to go to sleep rather than wake up.
